Abstract :
As the Internet is spread broadly, its applications bring many significant issues to the users and Service Providers. One of them is how to provide tools to measure and guarantee the Quality of Service (QoS). While the problem exists within one Internet SP´s network, it becomes worse when an application goes through the interconnection between ISPs networks. Traditionally, there are two ways measuring the net and retrieving the performance metrics: Passive method and active method. Unlike the passive method just to collect data in the network devices like routers and switches, the active one is to send probe packets into the Internet, and then to extract the QoS related data from the returned probe packets. Although the active method seems to be an effective way, few design or experiment words have been reported for the Internet application QoS resolution. This paper presents a design and implements a trial system based on the active method, which could monitor and measure the ISP´s network, and detect the QoS obstacles between the ISP´s networks. The experiment data of the real Internet show the effectiveness of this work.
