Abstract :
Summary form only given. We investigated passive mode locking of a diode-pumped Nd:KGW laser using a semiconductor saturable Bragg reflector (SBR). In this configuration we were able to achieve almost an order of magnitude reduction in pulse duration. For our experiment we used a simple ´dog-leg´ cavity. The crystal was placed at the end of one arm and the other arm contained 75 mm radius of curvature (ROC) focusing mirror and SBR. With /spl sim/3 W of absorbed pump power in the crystal, the total output power was 0.5 W with the pulse duration as short as 1.75 ps. The pulse repetition rate was 76 MHz.
