Abstract
This paper presents the development of an antenna system for a forward looking synthetic aperture radar (SAR) which uses digital beamforming (DBF) on-receive-only. One transmitting horn antenna is used in conjunction with 56 receiving patch subarrays all covering the same swath. The receiving antennas are sequentially switched which enables the antenna system to be operated by a conventional SAR receiver. The antenna system was built under contract from the DLR, Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany
