Abstract :
Wireless sensor networks have special characteristic of spatial correlation, which results in the statistical redundancy of data. In addition, the finite batteries of the nodes demand energy-balanced network control. In this article, we propose an energy-balanced representative node selecting (EBRNS) algorithm inspired by vector quantization (VQ) method, which solves the problem of energy consumption among nodes unbalanced. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm is shown to prolong the network lifetime compared with that of classical method (INS) by numerical simulations.
