Abstract
This paper presents a detailed analysis and comparison of a novel interior permanent magnet (IPM) machine for high performance traction applications. The influence of PM topology and winding selections on IPM machine´s field weakening performance and ripple torque is investigated. Detailed comparisons of the performance characteristics that include important issues such as the back-EMF voltage and its harmonic analysis, magnet mass and cogging torque are presented. Finally, the 36-slot-8-pole PM machine with rotor topology of W-shape has a good flux-weakening performance and is a good candidate for electric vehicle Traction.
