  • Abstract
    In this paper, the terminal voltage of the three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by a variable-speed prime mover (VSPM) is maintained constant by using static VAr compensator (SVC) and the AC load voltage regulator (AC-LVR) for DC power applications. The SVC and AC-LVR are used to control the load terminal voltage connected to the three-phase SEIG due to the DC load and prime-mover speed variations. A three-phase SEIG prototype setup was established using a PI closed loop feedback control system designed for its load voltage regulation. The simulation and experimental results prove the practical effectiveness of this simple method for obtaining a full variable-speed prime mover such as a wind turbine system. This proposal using SVC and AC-LVR to excite and control the induction generator voltage enables smooth voltage regulation, high efficiency, cheap and reliable analogous PI closed loop feedback control system and needless position-sensing systems.
