Abstract :
This paper presents an approach using high frequency signal injection to estimate the initial rotor position and magnet polarity for an interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM). The method using rotating vector, carrier frequency excitation and heterodyning, tracking observers for position are discussed. A DSP-based drive system for this purpose is developed. To distinguish the polarity of the rotor magnet, the magnetic saturation effect can be used. The simulation and experimental results show good response of the position observer.
