Abstract
Summary form only given. We report wavelength conversion using a periodically poled Zn:LiNbO/sub 3/ ridge waveguide that can confine both the TM and TE modes. We demonstrate polarization-independent difference-frequency generation using polarization diversity in a single waveguide. We obtained identical conversion efficiency for both polarizations. In our device configuration, transit delay times for TE and TM modes match automatically, so that the device is suitable to convert signals with ultrafast modulation.
