Abstract
Collagen-based biomaterials are used widely for various soft tissue repairs and augmentation, such as ligament replacements, rotator calf repair and repair of skin. Naturally derived biomaterials have several mechanical, biological, chemical, and economical advantages over synthetic constructs. Porcine-derived collagen may become increasingly important due to fears of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). The goal of this study was to evaluate the mechanical properties of a new, previously uncharacterized collagen sheet material derived from porcine dermis. MATERIALS AND METHODS
