Abstract :
Confidentiality of the messages and data integrity are the most critical issues for data transmission in wireless sensor networks and wireless sensor network technologies are considered as one of the key research areas in healthcare applications where human life is more critical and vital. So, we propose a biometric based security system for sensor-based health care applications. The proposed system has three advantages compared to previous works. First, to enhance security, the actual data is encrypted by using the key which is extracted from the receiver´s fingerprint biometric. Second, to reduce a transmission-based attack, the fingerprint based cryptographic key is randomized by applying a genetic operator. Third, data integrity is also ensured by this biometric cryptographic key since only the authenticated receiver can decrypt the messages. Thus, this security system provides confidentiality and key revocability for healthcare applications in wireless sensor environments. It also ensures the privacy and security of the individual patient´s health related information.
