  • Abstract
    Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) have been seen to be one of the promising access technologies which are adapted to the cellular networks system among heterogeneous wireless networks. Some schemes have been proposed to provide the handover technology between WLAN and cellular networks. However, during the handover procedure, the ongoing service will be interrupted due to the air interface switching, which means these schemes did not realize the concurrent technology between WLAN and cellular networks. Hence, a dual-standby scheme which achieves the coexistence and seamless handover between WLAN and cellular networks is proposed in this paper. And then a sorting scheme for Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) data flows is presented, in order to obtain a higher throughput rate. To evaluate the performance of these schemes, we set up a test-bed and do experiments under different scenarios. The experimental results show that it can achieve the effect that both WLAN and cellular networks device module are working at the same time. Moreover, it can obtain the performance gains by means of reordering.
