Abstract :
Following the electricity market opening, new producers are plugging into the network. Therefore it is very important for any system operator to control, at all times, a producer´s performances and characteristics. Estimation of parameters from power system measurement is a relatively new and unexplored field. It is complicated by the nonlinear nature of system dynamics and the size of the models. This paper shows a Gauss Newton approach involving trajectory sensitivities to estimate dynamic and controller performances. A theoretical approach of trajectory sensitivity, i.e., the sensitivity of the model response to small variations in parameters or initial conditions, is provided. An example, consisting of a 4-machine test power system, is used to illustrate the estimation algorithm.
