Abstract
This paper discusses a method for analyzing the potential interference that ultra-wideband (UWB) devices can cause on UMTS networks. We discuss the UWB-UMTS coexistence problem at the link level, showing the degradation on maximum cell range due to UWB interference. Further, we discuss the importance of proper modeling of the mobility and randomness associated with UWB and UMTS, and propose a system level simulation algorithm to simulate the behavior of a UMTS network in the presence of UWB interference, accounting for the multiple elements that determine and influence its performance. We present simulation results for a theoretical UMTS network, to illustrate its performance variation as the density of UWB interference sources changes
