Abstract :
Hard, upset, and latent failures of solid-state electronic components and systems due to electrical overstress are defined. Suppressor components and guidelines for selection and placement of surge protectors are discussed. Three case histories of system damage due to lightning-caused transient voltage spikes and the solutions implemented are presented.<>
