Abstract
Based on joining non-linear finite element and multi-body dynamics, a simulation strategy is developed in this paper to solve the crashworthiness design problem for train sets. The forces-deformation characters of energy absorption during crash event are obtained by using non-linear Finite Element Analysis (FEA) techniques. Then they are used in simulation for collision of two train sets with multi-body dynamics. The results of impact force, deformation, velocity and acceleration are analyzed to assess the passive safety of whole train set. The results indicate that the joining simulation strategy is feasible and effective, and it can be used to simulate the train set collisions during the crashworthy design process.
