Abstract :
This paper introduces a new method for phase angle measurement of a resistive current shunt using pulse counting technique. The described simple and accurate method provides an advantage that can be realized easily. The system consists of a precision current shunt, wideband buffers, two zero-crossing detector, a phase detector, digital counting circuits, and a pulse counter. Measurement principle compares each other signal that is occurred in the measuring signal and reference signal and measures difference of the signal by pulse counting. An experiment used shunts of 1 A and frequency supplied from 60 Hz to 5 kHz. The difference of phase error was less than 10 murad at 60 Hz. This principle is usable in the frequency range up to 100 kHz.
