Abstract
High-frequency magnetic component designs using multilayer thin films require accurate estimation of eddy-current loss, because at high frequency, eddy-current loss can be much worse than would be predicted without considering displacement current in the dielectric layers of the thin films. A closed-form expression for predicting the loss is introduced and shown to be more accurate over a wider range of parameters compared to previous work. The consistency of the model with experimental measurements is checked. A power performance factor for high-frequency power magnetics is introduced, and the loss model is used to choose optimal film thicknesses for operation at different frequencies.
