Abstract
The speed, inertia, torque, and drive ratio performance requirements for machine servo drives are described. It is shown that, to obtain the desired accuracy, stability, and surface finish, servo bandwidth, drive stiffness, and drive resolution are also important parameters for high-performance contouring operations typically required by machine tool applications. An overview of computer-aided engineering drive-sizing programs is presented.<>
