Abstract :
The paper reports two different space charge injection methods and their effect on breakdown strength. Space charges were injected into a point-plane gap either using a corona pin arrangement external to the gap or by applying a dc voltage to the point electrode. It has been found that the two different space charges injection methods have the same effect on minimum impulse breakdown levels in both electron-attaching and non-attaching gases. The experimental evidence indicates that the initiatory electrons resulting from detachment have a great influence on the breakdown strength
