Abstract
A novel hybrid 3-phase PWM current source rectifier (CSR) using SCRs and IGBTs that achieves low cost in high power field, unity power factor, and low input current THD, DC bus voltage control is presented. This topology employs a hybrid network with SCRs and IGBT in addition to the hybrid 3-phase PWM CSR. This network can improve the turn-off character of the SCRs in the main circuit, which is low cost and has low per unit current ratings. The circuit exploits the best features of the six SCRs which conducts high-current in the rectifier bridge, so as to improve the AC side character with respect to the phase controlled rectifier with SCRs. In addition the new circuit reduces the cost of devices compared to the six IGBTs 3-phase full bridge in the high power application. Simulations and experimental results are given to verify the performance of the novel converter topology.
