Abstract :
This research paper contributes to the discourse regarding the trajectory of Electronic Government initiatives. The paper investigates the emerging area of Transformational Government by assessing strategic planning documents of two South African government departments that are integral for the delivery of ICT enabled Public Sector programmes. The strategic plans are reviewed for alignment to the themes emanating from the conceptualization of the differences between Electronic Government and Transformational Government. The paper is exploratory, qualitative and is situated in the interpretivist research paradigm. A thematic analysis method is utilized to illuminate the current focus of South African public sector strategies. The paper finds that an opportunity exists to better align the strategic planning process and subsequent outputs towards Transformational Government objectives.
