Abstract :
In this paper the losses of a canned switched reluctance machine (SRM) are analyzed in detail, including can loss and iron loss. With the help of finite element method (FEM), the dynamic can loss depending on rotor position is discussed in detail. Different loss factors are investigated, including the concentration effect of eddy current, the rate of change of phase current, the field coupling effect and variation of air gap reluctance. Possible ways to reduce can loss can be easily seen from these factors. The iron loss is separated and calculated by discretizing the machine. This model is applicable to any electromagnetic device with non-sinusoidal flux density once the geometry and material are known. PC-SRD is used to compare and verify.
