Abstract :
Frequency tripling of cw 840 nm laser is obtained for laser cooling of magnesium ions. This beam at 280 nm is expected to improve the long-term and short-term stability of optical frequency standard by laser-cooled ions. Our frequency conversion system is essentially applicable to other wavelength.
