  • Abstract
An optical receiver for a low-cost, high-speed optical link must convert a /spl mu/A-input current into a digital signal. Furthermore the receiver should use a standard commercial digital CMOS process with little external overhead. In this way the optical receiver can be integrated with a DSP into a single VLSI device. This optical receiver with a preamplifier-transimpedance of 150 k/spl Omega/ achieves a bit rate of 240Mb/s for input currents as low as l /spl mu/A. The circuit achieves 490 Mb/s at 15 /spl mu/A input currents. The transimpedance-bandwidth is 18THz/spl Omega/ and the open-loop gain A more than 100.<>
