Abstract
This paper presents a novel control of bi directional switches (BBS´s) used in matrix converter. An extensive literature review and experimental study have been carried out to obtain a modern solution of commutation. An improved technique and control algorithm is used for commutation of bi-directional switch. A simple voltage sensor has been developed to control the matrix converter switches. This technique is simple and effective in comparison to the existing methods. Finally, this paper includes the detailed practical issues of freewheeling path and integration of over voltage protection of BBS in practical implementation. Experimental results are demonstrated to validate the proposed control strategy of freewheeling method.
