Abstract
In this paper a boundary model is defined to assess the power quality and loading cost function of power systems. Each bus is assigned a position in the space state model that is calculated using a simple equation. The state space representation of buses in the boundary model facilitates analysis of power system including the effects disturbances, linear and nonlinear loading, as well as reactive power compensation (e.g., using filters or FACTS devices) without the requirements for detailed power quality measurements. The proposed boundary model is used to investigate the impact of loading and compensation on a three bus system with linear and nonlinear loads.
