Abstract
In light of the importance of nanotechnology-related environmental, health and safety (EHS) issues, we have set up a common platform to study its potential impacts on environment, health and safety by coordinating research efforts from different agencies in Taiwan. The purpose is to understand and manage the potential risks of nanotechnology. It is more important to look for a mechanism to effectively integrate resources and knowledge, and to quickly leverage the internal and external efforts to deliver sustainable value for the society. Furthermore, how to collect toxicology data to support the revision of policies/regulations has become an urgent issue in nanotechnology communities. This study discusses the recent approaches including the management guidelines for nanomaterials in workplace, the epidemiological study of people working with nanoparticles, a nanoMark system for labeling nanoproducts, the nano standardization efforts, and a standardized evaluation platform for investigating the biological and physiological effects related to the exposure to nanoparticles.
