Abstract
The use of numerical relays and Intelligent functions. Electronics Devices (IEDs) as source of information lays greater emphasis on communication protocols. In the past, manufacturers devices developed their own proprietary protocols that suited their products the best. This created difficulties for system suppliers, system will integrators and utilities who wanted to use different products from multiple vendors and make them communicate with each other, which is difficult to achieve This paper describes the integration of IEDs from multiple vendors using Modbus and IEC60870-5-103 (T103) communication protocol to the bay controller. In order to achieve complete interoperability an IED is integrated on the station bus using IEC61850 protocol. On the basis of integration results an effort has been made to compare different features of these protocols.
