Abstract
A description is given of a local area network (LAN) used to link PCs to other serial devices using an RS-232-C interface. The hardware and software elements of the network controller are explained in terms of an actual implementation. The LAN design reflects a strategy of providing a transparent switching capability using only RS-232-C data transmission. The implementation involved the linking of several PCs connecting to several serial devices
