Abstract :
Important parameters to be considered in the design of a satisfactory visual environment for industrial control room operations are discussed: illumination levels, luminance and luminance contrast, relationship between hue speed detection, relationship between visual task and a source configuration, discomfort and reflected glare, and human factors. The industrial control room may be in the form of a process control room which houses the instruments, programmable controllers, and switching facilities, or a master control room which houses only VDTs, keyboards, printers, and vital monitoring instruments.<>
