Abstract :
This paper describes a computer simulation study to evaluate the impact of soft handoff on the capacity of a DS-CDMA microcellular network. Computer simulations are used to calculate the distributions of the signal-to interference ratio. This ratio is linked to performance by analytical calculations as well as simulations. We also describe our approach to propagation modelling in a microcellular environment. Finally we underscore an optimal size of the soft handoff area which is a function of the number of users
