Abstract :
The Shannon lower bound on the rate distortion function of sub-Gaussian vectors is considered. It can be shown that the Shannon lower bound can be decomposed into a sum of the rate distortion function of a corresponding Gaussian vector and a correction term which accounts for the differing distribution shape. This correction term is numerically evaluated
