Using spectral extinction technique to determine the particle size distribution has advantages of simplicity in measurement principle and convenience in optical arrangement. However, the ill-posedness of Fredholm integral equation of the first kind makes the inversion results of particle size distribution are sensitive to the argument parameters in the integral equation. Thus, several important factors effecting the inversion accuracy in the dependent model are investigated. Numerical simulations and experimental results indicate that a fairly reasonable representation of particle size distribution can be obtained when the object function and the number of wavelengths, as well as the particle size subintervals are considered reasonably.
