  • Abstract
A rule-based expert system which is capable of performing arrhythmia diagnosis (ARDIAG) has been constructed. The system is composed of an IBM PC/AT, an A/D converter, and an expert system building tool, Exsys. ARDIAG has the characteristics of a cardiologist, simulating the inference process. It is reliable, portable, and easy to communicate with. Using ARDIAG, diagnosis of arrhythmia can be done in 2 min. ARDIAG´s diagnoses for 367 ECGs are compared with those of two experienced cardiologists and shown to agree 87.4% of the cases. The sensitivity and specificity for the common arrhythmias are relatively high
