Abstract
Presents some improvements to practical realizations of detectors for the Japanese mobile telephony system. A differential detector is improved by using maximal ratio combining, taking into account issues of limited dynamic range in soft metric calculations. Feed forward and feedback coherent detection are discussed and compared for fading channels. Finally two different frame and symbol synchronisation methods are presented and compared
