Abstract
This paper describes a new oblique chirp sounder receiver which is time locked to provide accurate absolute measurements of the group delay, rather than the more usual relative measurements, when used with a time locked chirp transmitter. This equipment is now being utilised in ionospheric studies and is providing ionograms which can be processed, using established algorithms, to derive electron density profiles. The technique is demonstrated with the presentation of some early results
