Abstract :
In connection with existing and emerging mobile telecommunications systems a high demand for video services for a broad field of applications such as telephony, news gathering, surveillance, road guidance systems, etc. in different environments is expected. For this, flexible and robust video source coding algorithms are required to provide moving and still image transmission with an acceptable subjective quality at variable data rates in a hostile mobile environment. The paper presents a corresponding low bit rate video codec with associated forward error correction for video transmission in the Digital European Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) system
