Abstract :
In a video surveillance system a key issue is how to place the cameras and how to optimally move them searching for events. The Group for Research in Automatic Control Engineering (GRACE) at University of Sannio in Benevento (Italy) has developed a tool to determine the optimal cameras trajectory aimed to minimize the time necessary to monitor the environment. The problem has been treated as a constrained dynamic problem: given a bounded space equipped with one or more video cameras, the algorithm synchronizes them and determines the optimal trajectory in order to minimize the time necessary to monitor the environment, subject to static and dynamic constraints, i.e. bounds of the environment and camera dynamics. The algorithm effectiveness has been tested in GRACE laboratory
