Abstract
Variable pairing is important for the selection of decentralized control structure. A new method is proposed basing on the open-loop step response, according to ISE. This method is first used in the variable pairing of square multivariable systems, then is extended to non-square multivariable systems. Non-square multivariable systems are squared down by this method. Typical cases including square and non-square systems are employed to show that both steady-state and transient system properties are considered in the proposed method and this method is useful for the reasonable variable pairing.
