Abstract
In this paper a new concept for future short range vehicle to roadside communication systems at 5.8 GHz with electronically controlled array antennas is presented. The main beam of each antenna system is directed to fixed contours in the communication zone according to the vehicle´s position. Interfering signals from vehicles on adjacent lanes are suppressed with an adaptive sidelobe reduction algorithm. Results for an automatic fee collection system show the efficiency of the adaptive array concept
