Abstract
One of the best innovated Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices is the thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC). This device is effective to alter power system parameters in order to increase power transfer capability. Therefore the paper investigates modelling of TCSC and a sensitivity based approach to decide optimal location of TCSC. Optimal location method utilizes the reduction in the total system real power transmission loss (PLK) with respect to the control parameters of device and reduction in the real power flow performance index (PI) with respect to their control parameters. The modified IEEE 30 bus test system is selected to illustrate the feasibility of TCSC using power world simulator software.
