Abstract :
Most electric power cooperatives have old power cable in their underground distribution systems that is particularly prone to water-tree damage. At risk is the medium-voltage cable installed across the USA between the ´60s and the ´80s with insulation of high-molecular-weight polyethylene (HMWPE) or cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). Here, the authors describe the use of CableCure fluid, a dielectric enhancement technology that restores water-damaged stranded cable, within a cost-effective utility power cable reliability program
