Abstract
Nowadays, we witness the rapid deployment of networks based on WLAN technologies either in indoor or outdoor configurations. However, wireless links exhibit varying delivery rates, asymmetry, and packet loss, even if fixed deployments are considered. It is well-known that such a link behavior impacts severely the performance of Internet protocols. This paper discusses an implementation of header compression algorithm and protocol for TCP/IPv6 transport over wireless links of slow or medium speed. Our implementation complies to the underway standardization work in the IETF ROHC working group. ROHC TCP reduces the size of TCP/IPv6 headers, thus yielding spatial efficiency, while at the same time, being robust against the packet loss of the wireless link.
