  • Abstract
    To obtain the maximum output torque, the static torque characteristics of three typical structures of magnetic gears are analyzed. Meanwhile, the torque characteristics in the steady state are also investigated, which proves that the outer rotor has a higher torque ripple. Therefore, the influence of some key parameters, like combinations of permanent magnets (PMs) and magnetic blocks, thickness and pole arc of PMs, span and thickness of magnetic blocks, on the maximum torque and torque ripple is investigated. Additionally, the transient behavior of magnetic gears is analyzed, indicating that a lower torsional stiffness is the key reason for oscillations with transient changes in speed and load. To ensure the safe operation of magnetic gear, the overload capability is further analyzed.
