Abstract :
The authors have analyzed approaches for the selection and application of the appropriate graphical languages and tools for the analysis of a class of information systems which can be characterized as distributed discrete event systems. A structured modeling approach is developed. It is concluded that graphical network languages and software tools, when properly selected and applied, can provide an excellent basis for analyzing the structure and behavior of existing and proposed systems. An understanding of a real world system, the problem statement, and the modeling language is essential to the proper application of a modeling tools
