  • Abstract
    We proposed and demonstrated a simple technique to monitor the first-order PMD and GVD in WDM networks. The monitoring module consisted of two photodiodes, an RF bandpass filter, and an RF power detector. The proposed technique could measure the PMD and GVD of each channel with accuracy better than ±2.5 ps and ±30 ps/nm, respectively. Thus,we believe that the proposed monitoring technique is well suited for the use in PMD and GVD compensations.
