  • Abstract
For the first time an eye monitor for 40 Gb/s application was shown with high speed operation and high sensitivity. Using this eye monitor as well as degree of polarisation (DOP) as feedback signal optical polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) compensation experiments were performed by using an all order statistical PMD emulator. The cumulative probabilities of BER show a drastic improvement of BER due to PMD compensation with an advantage of the eye opening as feedback signal. The experimental results are consistent with simulations using same system parameters.
