Abstract
We propose a model for adaptive QoS management that dynamically adjusts application priorities based on user requirements. Unlike traditional QoS approaches that always give multimedia applications a pre-determined high priority due to their strict latency and loss requirements, the proposed model classifies traffic based on user preferences, thus, ensuring a certain level of quality regardless of the application requirements. Additionally, the model employs usability rules to detect and penalize concurrent use of conflicting applications in order to make fair use of the available bandwidth. The example of possible implementation of the model based on 802.11e standard demonstrates effectiveness of the proposed model with respect to the typical QoS schemes.
