Abstract :
Tactical decision makers use environmental support systems to determine tactical strategies for global operations. Premission and postmission analyses evaluate performance and provide new strategies for future mission effectiveness. High fidelity on-scene littoral environment descriptions must be available, accessible, and deliverable to mission analysts, combatant platforms, and other mission participants to make prevailing tactical decisions. Knowledge and understanding of dominant variabilities in the littoral environment and their impact on environmental support systems performance and effectiveness are major concerns for tactical decision makers. This paper discusses Coastal Scene Description Project tasks that implement and integrate data assimilation and fusion techniques, expert systems applications, environmental information system visualizations, and shore zone assessments with other tactical oceanography products to create an on-scene state of the environment
