Abstract :
The Rail Yard Manager (RYM) system is a scheduling and decision support tool used by yard operators and yard managers to increase service reliability through improved operations in a rail yard. The paper describes the intelligent strategies used to schedule operations in a rail yard. It is shown how artificial intelligence and operations research techniques, with the help of object oriented technology can complement one another in developing an efficient and effective tool for rail yard management
